This is a short, fun course accredited by the Same Sommelier Academy and delivered by a Certified Sake Sommelier. It’s great for those who are interested in furthering their knowledge about sake and is also the first step into the world of the sake sommelier. Your Sake will be sent to you in advance and you get a certificate at the end of it.
Your host for this event will be John Callow who is a Certified Sake Educator for The Sake Sommelier Association.
I attended a virtual Sake session last night: it was great. Samples were posted to me in advance – along with instructions for storage, serving etc – and then I logged in to Zoom to attend the session. We learned all about Sake: how it’s made, where it’s made, history etc – full of facts and anecdotes from John, who has been to Japan and visited lots of Sake places. We tried the samples chilled, at room temperature and warm to understand the differences to taste that serving makes. I really enjoyed it – will definitely be buying some Sake to share my newfound knowledge with my family and would definitely do an online session again. It was a lot of fun.
You’ll learn about the origins of this fabled drink, the etiquette and the way it is produced. There is also an introduction to the various types of sake – this includes trying five different types at different temperatures – from sparking to a premium Ginjo or Daiginjo. You will be given a complete set of tasting notes and an official certificate of participation from the Sake Sommelier Academy.
Before the event, we will send you four Sake samples which you must put into the fridge as soon as you receive them. We’ll also send you information about each one, a tasting mat and instructions as to how to prepare them before the tasting. You’ll taste some warm, some at room temperature and some chilled – all will be explained in the pack we send to you.
You don’t need any prior knowledge of sake (you do need to be over 18 as there’s tasting involved)
